
With a total of 139 participating teams and an historic purse of 3.7 million pesos in jackpots, plus One million pesos in guaranteed purse, the fourth edition of the “Maja El Grande” sportfishing tournament was an outstanding success. The tournament was part of the state series,“Fishing in the Five,” promoted by the Government of the State of Baja California Sur through the FONMAR Trust in coordination with the MAJA Sportswear Brand.

The “Said Team” won First Place in the competition with a Dorado weighing 44.3 pounds and they received a prize of 400 thousand pesos, plus the entire Jackpot.

The Second Place went to the “Kingfish Team,” with a 41.7 pound-Dorado and a purse of 300 thousand pesos; while “La Purina,” took Third Place with a catch of 39.4 pounds and a prize of 200 thousand pesos.
As part of the promotion of responsible fishing, the teams “Baja Souvenirs” and “Hoy se Pesca” were recognized for their participation in the “catch and release” category, resulting in winners in the raffle for those who successfully released Striped Marlin during the competition.
The Award Ceremony was led by the Director General of FONMAR Martín Inzunza Tamayo, on behalf of the Governor of the State Prof. Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío, with the presence of Deputies Sergio Guluarte Ceseña and Sergio Polanco, as well as Thalia Agúndez Arámburo, representing the head of SETUE; Natalia Ruffo Castaño, Director of Municipal Tourism; Alfonso Navarro Cornejo, General Director of the “Maja El Grande” tournament; and Jonathan Reyes Quintero, Marketing Coordinator of MAJA.
With events of this magnitude, the State Government reiterates its commitment to the Tourism and Sports projection of Baja California Sur, positioning La Paz as a National and International Benchmark in Sportsfishing.
