After the seizure of the vessel “Merengue” on May 30 in Cabo San Lucas for carrying falsified sport fishing permits, the Director of FONMAR, Martín Inzunza Tamayo, went together with the Coordinator of FONMAR in Los Cabos, Luis Ramón Cárdenas Carranza, and the owners of the vessel to the State Attorney General’s Office to request the release of the vessel.
During the appearance, it was recorded that the owners, Roberto and Alfonso Olascoaga, had no knowledge of the falsity of the permits used by the crew members, and that the apocryphal documents would have been issued by a third party that is currently under investigation.

Once the release letter was obtained, the closure seals were removed with the presence of the Port Captain, Jesús López Contreras and the representative of the State Government in the municipality, Samir Savín Ruiz, allowing the vessel to resume its commercial activities.
FONMAR reiterates its commitment to legal and responsible sport fishing, stressing that its work does not seek to harm tourism service providers, but to ensure compliance with the law to avoid sanctions that may include warnings, fines and even criminal liability.
