Fishing Tournament ‘El Cardonal’ Boosts Youth Education Fund

FISHING TOURNAMENT “EL CARDONAL” RAISES FUNDS TO IMPROVE COMMUNITY TELEBACCALAUREATE 20O May 24, the “El Cardonal” Fishing Tournament was held in the municipality of La Paz, an event that combined the passion for sport fishing with a noble cause: to support the Community Telebaccalaureate 20, the first of its kind in Baja California Sur.Thanks to the enthusiasm of 47 participating teams and the support of the State Government through FONMAR,  a total of 476,200 pesos were raised, resources that will be allocated to the construction of a roof that will directly benefit the student community of this educational institution. On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Sara María Esparza Lucero, director of the Telebachillerato, expressed her deep gratitude to Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío for his commitment to education, having authorized a contribution of 150 thousand pesos through the Fund for the Protection of Marine Resources (FONMAR) for the prize fund, which contributed to strengthen the call and the success of the tournament.

The winning teams were: “Iguaneros de San Bartolo”, with a marlin of 209.72 pounds, taking a prize of 93 thousand pesos. “Jicameros”, with a gilding of 47.25 pounds, taking a prize of 55,800 pesos. And “Soñadora II”, with a tuna of 66.29 pounds, deserving a prize of 37,200 pesos. This tournament not only stood out for the quality of the catches, but also for highlighting the social value of sport fishing as a tool to transform communities and support the future of South Californian youth.
