IMIPAS-FONMAR FISHERIES MEASUREMENT PROGRAM UNDERWAY

Research (IMIPAS) in conjunction with FONMAR, is now underway in the main ports of Baja California Sur.

The fishery species measurement study program, promoted by the Mexican Institute for Sustainable Fisheries and Aquaculture Research (IMIPAS) in conjunction with FONMAR, is now underway in the main ports of Baja California Sur.

FONMAR personnel deployed in the municipalities of Los Cabos, La Paz, Comondú, and Loreto

Since February, FONMAR personnel deployed in the municipalities of Los Cabos, La Paz, Comondú, and Loreto have begun visiting various landing sites, where they monitor and measure specimens caught by tourist boats.

as well as tuna, sea bass, and bonito in the Puerto Los Cabos Marina

To date, more than a thousand specimens have been evaluated, with notable catches of horse mackerel in Loreto, skipjack, sea bass, and snapper in Ensenada de Muertos, as well as tuna, sea bass, and bonito in the Puerto Los Cabos Marina.

Additionally, various commercial species have been recorded in Puerto Adolfo López Mateos. Through this effort, we seek to generate detailed information on the diversity and abundance of species throughout each season, which will enable more accurate decision-making by fisheries authorities and research institutions.

This study is an important step toward more informed and sustainable fisheries management, ensuring that sport and commercial fishing in Baja California Sur remains in balance with the conservation of marine resources.
