The municipality of Mulegé was the host of the “Baja California Sur Tournament – Bahía Asunción, which was supported by the Fund for the Protection of Marine Resources (FONMAR) on December 14 and 15, and it marked the closure of the calendar on the sport fishing tournaments for 2024.
The “Baja California Sur Tournament – Bahía Asunción” attracted 34 offshore teams and 44 shore fishermen in the yellowtail category, with 231 thousand pesos in prizes. The First-Place Winner was “Team Los Cholos,” with a yellowtail weighing 26.93 pounds, followed by “Team Metales Roque” with a yellowtail weighing 25.57 pounds. “Team Los Hijos de la Guayaba” weighed in a catch of 24.95 pounds. The only prize for tuna went to “Team Los Shiwilis,” with a 41.66 pounder.
The award ceremony was attended by several key figures, including FONMAR
Director Martín Inzunza Tamayo, who conducted the ceremony; the president of the Cooperative, Mario Alberto Arce Peña; Financial spokesperson Román López Ramírez; the Coordinator of Fishing Tournaments of FONMAR, Erick Enrique De La Vega Meza; and the Coordinator of FONMAR in Mulegé, Gael Omar Montoya. The winners of the shore tournament were also awarded: Ángel Uriel Arroyo, Urías Hernández, and Oren Leonardo.
Along with the other sport fishing tournaments, the event was promoted by the Funds for the Protection of Marine Resources (FONMAR). Special thanks were given to Governor Víctor Manuel Castro Cosío for his support in the development of sport fishing during 2024. Baja California Sur was the scene of great competition in the municipalities of the north BCS, where this activity is becoming a strong tourist activity.
