The sport fishing weekend, “Black Warrior” held by the State Government through FONMAR, from August 23 to 25 in Guerrero Negro, Mulegé, concluded with great success. There was a children’s sport fishing training, shore fishing tournaments, waste cleaning tournaments and deep-sea fishing tournaments.



The activities began on Friday with a Children’s Shore Fishing Training, where 30 children learned to use fishing equipment safely and to fish in a way that respects growth sizes, according to the recommendations of the IGFA.


Later, a waste cleaning tournament was held, which with the assistance of 80 people between adults and children, managed to remove two tons in the area of an aqueduct near a residential neighborhood.
The winning teams in this tournament to remove the largest possible amount of waste were “Los Humildes”, “La Última Hora” and “Ostioneras”, who took first, second and third place, respectively.


On Saturday, activities began with a shore fishing tournament in the area known as “El Faro Viejo,” where 150 fishermen participated in the children’s, women’s and men’s categories in a catch-and-release tournament.
The winners in the children’s category were Gael Rodríguez, Axel Ramón Castro, Arlene Ramírez, Kenet Meza, Andrés Castillo, Eder Rafael, Rafael Isaí and Marcos García.
In the women’s category: Asaela Vidrio, Alejandra Menchaca, Juana Villa, Claudia Sánchez, Pricen Solís and Beatriz Paredes.
And in the men’s category: Juan Pablo Mondragón, Jesús Antonio Torres, José Manuel Talamantes, Rosario Ríos, Enrique Castillo and José Enrique Higuera.





This sport fishing festival concluded on Sunday with a deep-sea yellowtail tournament, which had the participation of 14 teams and a prize purse of 150 thousand pesos.


These prizes were shared between the “Jirafitas” team, which took first place and 70 thousand pesos in prizes with a 21.16-pound horse mackerel; the “Panza y Cachete” team, which took second place and a prize of 50 thousand pesos with a 18.07-pound horse mackerel; and third place and a prize of 30 thousand pesos for the “Los Pepes” team with a 16.57-pound horse mackerel.
This event, the first of its kind, was held in Mulegé thanks to the efforts of the local Deputy, Teresita de Jesús Valentín Vázquez and the coordinated work of FONMAR with the Guerrero Negro Sports Fishing Committee. Promoting the development of sports fishing in Guerrero Negro and the union of the community through a time of healthy coexistence and fun.
